Our enquiry question for Autumn 2026 is: 

Ancient Greeks vs Romans: who had the greatest impact on our lives today?

The main subject we will be focusing on during our project is History where the children will become historians and travel back in time to explore the fascinating worlds of Ancient Greece and Roman Britain. They will investigate what life was really like, uncover clues from artefacts and archaeological evidence, and explore how and why these civilisations changed over time. They will use their learning to answer our big question: Ancient Greeks vs Romans – who had the greatest impact on our lives today?

This term, we will DISCOVER the following questions:

What can Ancient Greek pottery tell us about life in Ancient Greece?

Who were the Greeks and why were Athens and Sparta so different?

Why did a small Greek army win Marathon and what was Alexander the Great’s impact?

What were the Greek Gods known for and what were Greek philosophers famous for?

What happened at the Ancient Greek Olympic Games? What have we learned, and how significant was Greek influence?

Where did the Roman Empire come from and how did the Roman army help to expand the Roman Empire?

What was Britain like before the Romans invaded and how did Britain become part of the Roman Empire?

Who was Boudicca and how did she rebel against the Romans and was Boudicca a hero or a rebel?

What were houses like in Roman Britain and how did bathhouses provide leisure for Romans in Britain?

What can archaeological sites tell us about Roman Britain and what did the Romans build after they settled in Britain?

What lasting impact did the Romans leave in Britain and what have we learned about Roman Britain?

We will explore concepts such as influence (legacy), belief, conflict and democracy.

We will also be dressing up as Ancient Greeks for our drama workshop day on 6^th October.

In English, we will be using the text Leo and the Gorgon’s curse by Joe Todd-Stanton.

Throughout the term, our class story will be Ancient Greek Myths.

In Maths, we will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division.

The school treasures we are focusing on are courage and respect.
