Our enquiry question for summer 2026 is: 

What is the purpose of the arts?

The main subject we will be focusing on during our project is art. The children will learn to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas in creative and meaningful ways. Through art, music and dance we can tell stories, share experiences and understand different cultures and perspectives. The arts also inspire imagination and creativity, encouraging us to think in new ways and solve problems. The arts provide an opportunity to build confidence, develop skills and enjoy learning while exploring their own unique ideas.

In Summer 1, we will explore sculptures, how materials can be joined and look at prominent artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Joan Miro and Anthony Caro. We will also create art inspired by our text ‘The Tin Forest’. In Summer 2 we will explore Pop Art and look at a variety of different artists and techniques.

They will consider the following questions:

What is a sculpture and how does it differ from other art forms?

How can a painting or sculpture transport you to a different time or place?

Why do people create art?

How can art help us to show our feelings?

What can we learn about other cultures through art?

How does music or art make you feel, and why?

Why is creativity important in our lives?

What would the world be like without art?

In what ways can art bring people together?

 Throughout our project, we will explore concepts such as creativity, influence, transformation, expression and diversity.

The school treasures we are focusing on are love and honesty.

P.E. is on a Wednesday and Thursday this term.
