Wellbeing

Well - Being at Bunny C of E Primary School

At Bunny C of E Primary School, we are a kind and caring community that values strong, close relationships with our families. We recognise that every member of our school community has both physical and mental health, and that both are equally important.

Mental health is about our feelings, thoughts, emotions and moods. We all experience a wide range of feelings every day, and these can change over time. Just like our physical health, there may be times when we experience difficulties with our mental health. These challenges can affect how we feel, how we see the world, how we behave and how we interact with others.

At Bunny, we actively support children’s wellbeing through the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, our Mental Health Champion training and our SCARF PSHE programme. We are also proud to have a trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) on site, who works closely with children to support their emotional needs.

We encourage everyone to be kind to themselves and to others. It’s important to remember that it can sometimes be difficult to know how someone else is feeling—someone may feel upset but may not show it or tell anyone. By showing kindness and understanding, we can help create a supportive environment for everyone.

We invite you to explore the activities on our well-being section of the school website—not only during times when feelings may be difficult, but also as a way to maintain good mental health when things are going well. Most importantly, enjoy them and have fun!

If you have serious concerns about mental health, please contact the school or your GP. If you are worried about a child’s welfare, you can contact the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0300 500 80 80. For urgent concerns outside of working hours (08:30–17:00), please contact the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) on 0300 456 4546. In an emergency, always call 999.

Well-Being Award for schools

As a school we have signed up to the “Well- being award for schools” which is delivered in partnership with the National Children’s Bureau (NCB). The intention of this award is to help us prepare and equip ourselves to promote emotional wellbeing and positive mental health across the whole-school community. https://www.awardplace.co.uk/award/was

NCB’s vision is an education system where good emotional wellbeing and mental health are at the heart of the culture and ethos of all schools, so that pupils, with the support of their teachers, can build confidence and flourish. Evidence shows us that wellbeing is of central importance to learning and attainment, with high levels of wellbeing associated with improved academic outcomes. Conversely, pupils who have mental health problems are more likely to have academic difficulties at school and experience social disadvantage later in adult life.

To achieve the Wellbeing Award Status, there are 8 objectives that we will spend the next 12-18  months working towards.

These objectives are:

Objective 1: The school is committed to promoting and protecting positive emotional wellbeing and mental health by achieving the Wellbeing Award for Schools.

Objective 2: The school has a clear vision and strategy for promoting and protecting emotional wellbeing and mental health, which is communicated to all involved with the school.

Objective 3: The school has a positive culture which regards emotional wellbeing and mental health as the responsibility of all.

Objective 4: The school actively promotes staff emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Objective 5: The school prioritises professional learning and staff development on emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Objective 6: The school understands the different types of emotional and mental health needs across the whole-school community and has systems in place to respond appropriately.

Objective 7: The school actively seeks the ongoing participation of the whole-school community in its approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Objective 8: The school works in partnerships with other schools, agencies and available specialist services to support emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Each objective is broken down into a number of key performance indicators where we have to collect evidence and show impact.

Mental Health Champions!

We are incredibly proud to say we are now "Bronze Mental Health Champions!" The children in Oak class have had weekly lessons to understand how to manage their own mental health and how they can support their friends with theirs. This year we are working towards our Silver award!

Well-being is valued and celebrated throughout our school. Have a look and see how the children champion each other!
